Hey! My name is Brent Mazza, and I am the Owner and Director of Tennis at HAT.

Tennis is my true passion in life. I am originally from Southern California, but I went to college in Massachusetts at Boston University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Prior to my time at HAT, I gained invaluable tennis industry experience working for the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, the Boston Lobsters' World Team Tennis Franchise, and for the Champions Tour.

My journey at HAT started in 2010 when I became our very first intern. Over the years, I progressed to assistant pro, head pro, and now director and owner. I am USPTA, PTR, USTA High Performance, and HAT Method Certified and have helped develop champions at every level. I have had the privilege to coach/consult with numerous Pro & ITF circuit players including:

  • Ao Gai - China (WTA #466)

  • Karen Barritza - Denmark (WTA #474)

  • Zoe Scandalis - USA (WTA #711)

  • Hao Zhang - China (ATP #1674)

  • Pengyu Zhang - China (ITF #614)

  • Marcos Salazar - Peru (ITF #927)

I have also had the honor of being selected by the USTA to coach several state, sectional, and national teams and events, including:

  • USTA Colorado

    • Team Colorado Developmental Squad Coach (2017-Current)

    • EDC Green Ball Coach (2017-Current)

  • USTA Intermountain

    • Team USA Sectional Camp Coach (2018)

    • 14's Intersectional Team Coach (2016)

    • 16's Zonal Team Coach (2014)

  • USTA National

    • 12's Spring Team Level 1 National Tournament Coach (2018, 2019)

Our philosophy at HAT is that tennis is a game and must, first and foremost, be FUN! Additionally, we try to never miss a "learning opportunity" with a student, whether it be technical, tactical, strategic, mental, emotional or golden-rule-of-life moment. It is often our job to wear multiple "HAT's" to help our students successfully navigate their tennis journey.

My students call me "Mazza" and say that they enjoy my humor, but they know that I am also always honest and tell them the truth. They know that they can trust me.

I am also an active 5.0 and Open tournament and league player, and I am always working on fine tuning my own game whenever possible (just like our students!).

Thanks for considering HAT!

Hi! My name is Maryann Christensen and I’m the Executive Assistant and After School Program Coordinator at HAT. I work mostly behind-the-scenes - my many duties include scheduling the after school programs, helping with registrations, handling the social media and website, and answering any questions you have! I’ve been at HAT since 2018, and I’ve lived in Denver since 2010. I’m from the Black Hills in South Dakota, where I grew up helping my parents run a small family-owned hotel and spa.

I have a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from MSU Denver and in addition to working at HAT, I work as an accompanist with choirs, churches, and schools in the Denver area. I also teach private piano lessons. I enjoy the variety of my jobs, and being able to use all my different skills. Never a dull moment!

Thank you for your interest in HAT, and feel free to reach out with any questions!

Hi! I'm Patty Shaw and I'm an After School Program Coach at HAT. I am a Colorado native. I began playing tennis at the age of 8 and once I found this sport, never stopped, for I have the love and compassion for the game of tennis. I attended Wheatridge Senior High School in Wheatridge, Colorado and played on the varsity tennis team all my years in high school, as well as some tennis at The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I attended college on a music scholarship in saxophone performance. In addition to teaching tennis, I teach music, saxophone, clarinet, flute and guitar. I also play in the Flatirons Jazz Orchestra, among many other bands. I am involved in all USTA tennis leagues and tournament at the 4.0-4.5 levels. I love children and teaching tennis and believe nothing is impossible to learn and to be inspired by this great game. I am a fun, outgoing coach and have tons of positive energy to get you to any level you desire to learn. I am patient and willing to teach you this great game, or for those who already know how to play, get you to your next level to have the confidence to compete or just have fun!
